Fighting back: How pharmaceutical companies are stepping up in the war against antimicrobial resistance

We’re fighting a war on five fronts.

Antimicrobial resistance

Every year 50,000 people across the world die from infections which are resistant to antibiotics. Superbugs are changing all the time and if we don’t find new ways of stopping them, that number could rise to 10 million people a year by 2050.

The pharmaceutical industry is working with governments and NGOs internationally and locally to do just that. The British Government’s ambition is to lead the world in the fight against antimicrobial resistance, and our industry wants to help them get there.

We’re working with Public Health England and the Department of Health and Social Care to do so. If we can get this right, together we could help save the lives of millions of people around the world for generations to come.
