ABPI response to Labour pledges

This morning (16 May) Sir Keir Starmer made a speech setting out his pledges if Labour wins the next election, including on health and the economy.

In response, Richard Torbett, Chief Executive of the ABPI said: "We welcome the fact that improving healthcare and dealing with NHS pressures are among Labour’s key priorities and believe that partnership with industry can help.

"We want to support the NHS, help build capacity across the system, and be equal partners in solving the health challenges we face as a nation.

“Labour has already recognised the potential of life sciences to improve healthy life expectancy and boost the economy.

"We look forward to working with all parties to help prevent ill-health, create the cutting-edge treatments people need, and set the UK up as a world leader in life sciences in the process."

The ABPI exists to make the UK the best place in the world to research, develop and use new medicines. We represent companies of all sizes who invest in discovering the medicines of the future.

Our members supply cutting edge treatments that improve and save the lives of millions of people. We work in partnership with Government and the NHS so patients can get new treatments faster and the NHS can plan how much it spends on medicines. Every day, we partner with organisations in the life sciences community and beyond to transform lives across the UK.
