ABPI welcomes the Innovation Ecosystem Programme Review

NHS England published the Innovation Ecosystem Programme Review today. The publication recommends a package of measures to help the UK lead the way in health innovation and generate economic growth.

The ABPI's Chief Executive Richard Torbett was on the programme advisory group.

Welcoming today's report, Richard said: “This review rightly recognises the scale and breadth of innovations coming through from the life sciences sector. It’s great to see the recommendations focus on making innovation a core NHS priority, ensuring breakthrough treatments can reach patients.

"To truly embed a culture of innovation in the NHS, the health system needs to foster the right skills and capabilities for staff to explore and embrace change.

“Medicines and vaccines can support the three strategic shifts the Health Secretary wants to see. It is important for the NHS 10-Year Plan and the Innovation and Adoption Strategy to take the recommendations forward to help the NHS genuinely lead healthcare innovation on a global scale.”
