The King’s Fund calls on NHS leaders to help unlock power of industry partnerships
The ABPI has today (Monday) welcomed a new report from The King’s Fund which explores the positive impacts of NHS and industry partnerships.
The report, ‘NHS and life sciences industry partnerships: collaborating to improve care’ calls for the government and NHS leaders to set out clear support for NHS-industry partnerships and seek to maximise the contribution of industry to key NHS priorities. [1]
The leading health and social care charity says that when such partnerships are done well, they can deliver benefits for patients, staff and services. Emerging research from Carnall Farrar (CF) for the ABPI underlines this, highlighting that partnerships with industry were associated with better outcomes for patients. [2]
The life sciences sector is cited as an enormous asset that could make a significant contribution to the government’s missions of building an NHS fit for the future and kickstarting economic growth.
Richard Torbett, Chief Executive of the ABPI said: “This important report from The King’s Fund demonstrates the huge benefits of partnership working between the NHS and industry. The individual projects explored are inspiring.
“The report is right to point to some of the challenges these partnerships must overcome. However, we believe partnership can play an important role in supporting the NHS in achieving the strategic shifts required to make it a service that’s fit for the future.
“I’m excited about the potential of what we could achieve for patients by putting the recommendations into action.”
